Movandi, a U.S. company involved in RF and millimeter wave-related technologies, announced on February 19, 2025, that it has been working with Kyocera to expand the coverage and capacity of 5G millimeter wave networks.

Kyocera and KDDI announced in December 2024 that they had successfully developed a new wireless relay technology to efficiently expand millimeter wave communication areas. As a result of deploying this repeater in the Nishi-Shinjuku building district, they reported that they were able to dramatically expand millimeter wave road coverage. The two companies stated that they aim to put this technology to practical use by the end of FY2025.

Movandi CTO Reza Rofougaran said, "The collaboration between Kyocera and Movandi demonstrates our unique approach of combining specially designed silicon, antennas and software with advanced AI and cloud control. This will enable a significant reduction in deployment costs," and commented, "Our technology in Kyocera's smart repeaters will support applications such as fixed wireless access and private networks with high throughput, high capacity, and low latency.
