South Korea's HFR Mobile, a private 5G and DX solution provider, launched a private 5G-based public safety solution for local governments on February 12, 2025. This is part of the "Self-Communication Network Infrastructure Project" supported by the National Information Society Agency (NIA), the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, and the city of Gimcheon, and is the first case of private 5G being used for public safety in the country.

As part of the project, HFR Mobile installed a 5G core and base station (CU/DU) at the Integrated Control Center, a public safety hub facility in Gimcheon City. The company also installed a radio unit (RU) at Ansan Park in Gimcheon Innovation City to create a comprehensive private 5G infrastructure using the city's own self-communication network.

This private 5G network will enable a real-time AI monitoring and response system for park facilities. It is also expected to expand coverage to other public areas in Gimcheon in the future to support mission-critical applications, such as monitoring services for fire detection.

Hae-Kwan Jung, Director of Sales and Business Development at HFR Mobile, commented, "In the future, we aim to expand this model nationwide to support local government DX through smart public safety solutions.
