U.S. electronic instrumentation giant Keysight Technology and Spain's University of Malaga announced on January 30, 2025, the opening of a 6G research and innovation lab in Malaga, with the aim of advancing the technology through comprehensive solutions that address key 6G use cases and technical challenges.

The lab will consist of three main workspaces: "Monitor," "Measure," and "Experience. These workspaces will focus on real-time monitoring of 5G/6G networks, testing and analysis with Keysight's latest hardware/software, and demonstration of 6G applications and technologies. In addition, key research areas will include "emerging frequencies and components," "AI (artificial intelligence) & ML (machine learning) networks," "digital twins," "networked sensing," "emerging network topologies," and "security and privacy," the company said.

Giampaolo Tardioli, Keysight's VP of 6G and Next Generation Technologies, commented that the new lab "will serve as a hub for innovation and collaboration in the 6G space" and "will play a pivotal role in enabling use cases, facilitating human interaction, improving enterprise efficiency, and accelerating innovation to transform society.
