Ericsson recently announced that it has been selected as the global technology supplier for the 2025 season of the SailGP international yacht race. The company's private 5G infrastructure will be used to enhance SailGP's race operations and fan experience.
SailGP is a yacht racing national competition launched in 2019. Teams will compete at venues around the world using the F50, a catamaran equipped with 4K video cameras, sensors, and other state-of-the-art technology and capable of reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h.
Ericsson will provide its private 5G solution and Cradlepoint edge routers to the race. The edge routers will be installed in the wings of each country's F50s and will process over 53 billion data points per day, including IoT, video data, and critical communications from competing boats via private 5G networks.
Manish Tiwari, head of enterprise 5G for Ericsson's Enterprise Wireless Solutions business, said, "Their collaboration will support a wide range of use cases, including race-critical technology for real-time decision making and the best fan experience with race analytics. This collaboration demonstrates the innovation of our connectivity products, which support a wide range of use cases, including race-critical technology for real-time decision-making and the best fan experience through race analytics.
