Local 5G Licensing and Technology State-of-the-Art

Posted on 2025/02/12

Local 5G has been spreading rapidly since August 2023, when a new concept of "shared use" was added to the system, but another bottleneck is "obtaining a license. Since last year, the number of applications for such licenses has been increasing rapidly, but the state of affairs has not changed: it takes time to obtain a license and the details of the application are difficult to understand. However, the resolution of this problem is being discussed in the "Frequency Reorganization Action Plan" of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and there may be a major move in the near future. In Part 1 (for XGMF members only), Mr. Yuji Nakamura (Director, Radio Policy Division, Radio Department, Telecommunications Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications) will lead the discussion, followed by XGMF Local 5G License Process Shortening Project Leader Daiji Masuyama (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East Corporation), XGMF ODAIBA IX Core Project Leader Gota Iwanami (Infocity Inc. (Infocity Corporation) and Takehiro Nakamura (NTT DOCOMO, Inc.) will discuss the "Latest Status and Future of Local 5G Licensing" (non-member companies are welcome to join this opportunity).Join XGMF(Please consider attending the following sessions). In the second part, global local 5G (private 5G) vendors Nokia and Ericsson will present the state-of-the-art of local 5G and the reality of expanding its usage (anyone can participate online).
