On January 23, Boldyn Networks of the UK, a neutral host provider (an operator that builds telecommunications infrastructure on behalf of and provides it to multiple carriers), announced that it has agreed to acquire Smart Mobile Labs (SML), a private 5G-related company in Germany.
SML is the German market leader in building custom-built private 5G networks. The company has a distribution agreement with Nokia and has participated in several high-profile private 5G projects in Germany, including Audi's large-scale private 5G project. The company also has a high level of expertise in the transmission and distribution of video signals and offers its own live streaming software called Edge Video Orchestrator (EVO).
With this acquisition, Boldyn will have more than 110 Mobile Private Network (MPN) deployments in the U.S. and five major European economies, the company said. The company expects the German market to be "one of the largest MPN markets in Europe over the next decade," and commented that "the SML acquisition strengthens our expertise in critical areas and application-specific use cases and further develops our industry-leading private 5G as a service.
