Wi-Fi as industrial radio and local 5G collaboration

Posted on 2025/01/14

When trying to update a factory with industrial radio, the best communication portfolio can be configured by successfully combining local 5G and Wi-Fi, depending on the complex on-site conditions. The theme of this workshop, "Collaboration of Wi-Fi and Local 5G as Industrial Radio," will examine what points to pay attention to when actually trying to combine and utilize them, while experiencing the state-of-the-art of local 5G and AMR, and the state-of-the-art of Wi-Fi in the field. This workshop will be held in conjunction with Net One Systems, Inc. This year's workshop has been kindly sponsored by Net One Systems, Inc,netone valley (Grand Logistics Terrace Shinagawa, 1-5-13 Katsushima, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo)The event will be held at

60GHz Wireless Communication Devices Open Up the Future of Industrial Radio
Nobuhiko Arashin
General Manager, Wireless Technology Development Department, Development Laboratory, Panasonic System Networks Co.

The 60 GHz band has been attracting attention as a frequency band for short-range, high-capacity communications. The WiGig Alliance has established a high-speed data communication standard that uses this band, standardized as IEEE802.11ad, and has been promoting the use of millimeter wave (30 to 300 GHz) and other high frequency bands. Panasonic System Networks Development Institute Co., Ltd. has now launched the "ecdi (everyone can do it)" series of 60 GHz wireless communication devices. It offers communication speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps, low latency of less than a few ms, easy installation and operation, and, because it is in the ISM band, does not require a radio operator's license or a radio station license. In this presentation, we will look into the future of industrial radio as envisioned by the ecdi series.

PicoCELA's Enterprise Wireless Mesh Technology
Hiroshi Furukawa
President, PicoCELA Corporation

PicoCELA is a venture company offering the PicoCELA Backhual Engine (PBE), a proprietary mesh Wi-Fi technology that boasts high stability even in poor reception environments. The PBE is also used as an edge computing platform, aiming to realize a new information communication infrastructure in which the communication infrastructure also serves as a computing platform. PBEs themselves are also being used as a new means of wireless connectivity to mobile devices, sensors, and other devices. This presentation will provide an overview of PBE and its use cases.

Industrial Wireless for Manufacturing: A Practical Comparison of Local 5G and Wi-Fi
Ryota Akimoto
Market Strategy Team, Enterprise Business Strategy Department, East Japan Division 3, Net One Systems

In an environment such as a factory where complex machines and systems are intermingled, it is necessary to design a network that takes into account how to use local 5G and Wi-Fi as industrial wireless systems, how they interact with existing wired systems that should naturally exist, and the operation of state-of-the-art AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot). Network design must also take into account the interaction with existing wired systems and the operation of cutting-edge AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot). We will explain how to effectively use local 5G and Wi-Fi based on practical comparisons and verifications.

Part 3: Discussion: 16:30-17:45
