Yokogawa Electric Corporation, a leading electronics manufacturer, announced that its subsidiary, Yokogawa Italia, has received an order from CrossWind of Italy for an integrated control and energy control and monitoring system for its Baseload Power Hub, an offshore green hydrogen production and storage pilot plant. The order was placed with Rosetti Marino S.p.A. of Italy, the parent company of an international business group specializing in the design, construction, and supply of oil and gas, renewable energy, and carbon neutral offshore and onshore plants.
CrossWind is a joint venture between Shell, the British energy giant, and Eneco, the Dutch integrated energy company (acquired by Mitsubishi Corporation and Chubu Electric Power in 2020). The Baseload Power Hub is a pilot plant to be installed at the Hollandse Kust Noord wind farm, 18.5 km off the Dutch coast, and will use surplus electricity generated by 69 offshore wind turbines to produce green hydrogen that can be stored in megawatts of electrolyzers, The plant will be able to convert the hydrogen into electricity using fuel cells on demand. In addition, since wind power generation fluctuates, the system is also equipped with storage batteries for short-term use.
According to Yokogawa, the plant is a technically complex facility that requires a single control and monitoring system to coordinate and optimize multiple independent systems. The company describes this project as "The Integrated Information Server (CI Server), a platform that integrates control systems, sensors, and AI, will play a central role.
