Strengthening Japanese industry through IX (Industrial Transformation), a reality supported by local 5G/millimeter wave band utilization

The topic of IX will be discussed at MWE2024 (Microwave Workshops & Exhibition) (Pacifico Yokohama, November 27-29, 2024), one of the largest academic, industrial, and educational events related to microwave technology in Japan....

The industrial world continues to improve operational efficiency and kaizen. On the other hand, the task of making major changes in industrial workplaces is highly challenging. This is because, like the nerves of an organism, a network that connects the workplace to the brain is indispensable in realizing such IX (Industrial Transformation). Although there is a demand for wireless networks to replace wired networks, which have many physical limitations, the development of wireless networks that can function effectively in industrial settings, which are often harsh environments over vast areas, has not yet been widely adopted by the general public.

On the other hand, as approximately five years have passed since the commercialization of 5G, efforts are continuing on private 5G/local 5G, which utilizes 5G in specific areas, and on the use of the millimeter wave band. However, the spread of these technologies has remained within a certain range, and expanding their use will be a challenge in the future. To this end, the expansion of IX use cases utilizing private 5G/local 5G and millimeter wave is required.

One of the nation's largest academic, industrial, and educational events related to microwave technology, "MWE2024(The Microwave Workshops & Exhibition (Pacifico Yokohama, November 27-29, 2024) will cover topics related to IX. The core of the event will be the workshop "Private 5G / Local 5G and Millimeter Wave Band Applications and Future Prospects," which will be held on November 28.

The workshop organizer/chair will be Takehiro Nakamura of NTT DOCOMO, who will unravel the relationship between IX and wireless. Three related organizations looking at IX will speak at the workshop, followed by a panel discussion to deepen the discussion on the direction they are aiming for.

Speakers and presentations from the three organizations are listed below. Please refer to the links below for an overview and how to participate.

  1. XGMF ODAIBA IX Core Project for Local 5G and Millimeter Wave Deployment."
Mr. Kota Iwanami (XGMF ODAIBA Ix Core Project Leader, Infocity)
  2. SRF Wireless Platform Transforms Manufacturing Sites by Utilizing Wireless Communications in the Right Places at the Right Times - Expanding Use Cases with 5G -"
