On October 28, Korean telecom giant SK Telecom and Samsung Electronics announced the joint development of AI-based 5G base station quality optimization technology. The technology is expected to be used for future wireless network upgrades.
This technology, called "AI-RAN Parameter Recommender," uses data collected from existing wireless communication networks and analysis utilizing AI and deep learning to predict various wireless environments and service characteristics, and automatically recommends parameter settings suitable for the environment of each base station. The technology has already been used in SK telecom's commercial telecommunications network. It has already been tested on SK telecom's commercial telecom network and has been able to bring out the potential performance of 5G base stations and improve the customer experience.
The two companies intend to introduce this technology to areas such as subways, where usage patterns tend to change and traffic volume is high, to further improve and verify the technology.
Ryu Tak-ki, General Manager of Infrastructure Technology Department at SK Telecom, said, "This achievement is significant because it shows that the potential performance of individual base stations can be maximized by integrating AI," and commented, "We will accelerate our evolution to an AI-native network that integrates telecom and AI technologies to provide a differentiated customer experience. We will accelerate the evolution to an AI-native network that integrates telecommunications and AI technologies to provide a differentiated customer experience," he commented.
