Millimeter wave implementation as a milestone for factory 5G sites and 6G

Posted on November 11, 2024

XGMF-ODAIBA IX (Industrial Transformation) Core will hold its third TeleGraphic WorkShop on Thursday, November 21 at OPEN HUB (Otemachi, Tokyo) hosted by NTT Communications. Among the "Know," "Connect," "Experience," and "Create" offered by OPEN HUB, this time we will focus on "Connect" and discuss how 5G is actually used in factories and how it can be used to create a sustainable society. The seminar will focus on "Connections" among "Know," "Connect," "Experience," and "Create" that OPEN HUB offers, and how 5G is actually realized in factories, and how to accelerate social implementation of millimeter wave as a stepping stone to 6G. While the OPEN HUB tour in Part 1 is limited to XGMF members, anyone can register for the sessions in Part 2, including online participation.

Session1
Mototaka Taneya

Sharp's vision for next-generation communications technology (Sharp's strategy for millimeter wave/local 5G/Beyond5G)
Mototaka Taneya
Senior Managing Executive Officer, CTO and Next Innovation Group, Sharp Corporation; Chairman, Sharp IP Infinity Corporation

One of the barriers to the spread of 5G in the world of IX (Industrial Transformation) is the problem of implementing functions on the SoC (System on Chip). If the SoC can implement functions through software, business will be viable and IX will be promoted. This should greatly expand the field of applying 5G and Beyond 5G (6G) to industrial applications. This is the starting point for Sharp's 5G/6G business.
Session2 (Session 2)
Yuji Tarui

Introduction of high-speed wireless communication technology initiatives and the 5G Innovation Plant
Yuji Tarui
Group Manager, DX Promotion Center, DX Division, JFE Engineering Corporation

JFE Engineering established the DX Division in FY2022 and has been working to fundamentally reform business processes, upgrade existing businesses, and create new businesses through the use of digital technology, including 5G. We have been conducting manpower-saving verification based on high-speed, large-capacity communications implemented over the past several years, and we are beginning to see prospects for future field demonstrations, which we would like to share with you.
Session3 (Session 3)
Kei Sakaguchi

Proper Use of Millimeter Waves in 5G/6G - Through the Example of Ookayama 5G/6G Demonstration Field
Kei Sakaguchi
Vice President, Tokyo University of Science, Director of Research Development Organization, Director of the Institute for Excellence in Super-Smart Society, and Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering

A B5G (Sub6/millimeter wave) demonstration field has been constructed at Tokyo University of Science (Ookayama Campus), where real-time applications have been realized by linking virtualized networks and MEC. In order to maximize the potential of B5G, a Massive Relay MIMO system utilizing multiple millimeter-wave repeaters is under construction. We will introduce various "proper uses of millimeter wave in 5G/6G" that we have learned from this demonstration field.
Session4 (Session 4)
Daisuke Tsujino

5G x Business New Prospects
Daisuke Tsujino
NTTCom 5G & IoT Service Department

DOCOMO has released 5G Wide as a unique service to meet the demand for stability in addition to the high speed and large capacity that have been the basic requirements of conventional mobile networks for industrial applications. We will introduce 5G Wide and discuss the prospects for business applications of 5G advancement with case examples.

Part 3 17:00 - 19:00 : Discussion

(XGMF members only)
