On October 15, 2024, SK Telecom, Korea's largest telecommunications company, released a white paper on 6G technology in the AI era, SK Telecom 6G White Paper: View on Future AI Telco Infrastructure. In it, the company shows the direction of evolution of wireless/wireline infrastructure based on the convergence of AI and telecommunications.
This report builds on the company's 2023 white paper on 6G. Last year's report provided an analysis of key requirements, technology trends, and candidate frequency bands for 6G standardization.
In the report, the company has defined "cloud-native," "green-native," and "AI-native" as the three core elements in the evolution of 6G infrastructure, and presented the potential for 6G infrastructure evolution based on ubiquitous intelligence as highlighted in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) 6G Framework Recommendation (IMT-2030). The potential for the evolution of G infrastructure is presented. It also highlights the concept of a "Telco Edge AI" infrastructure that combines telecom network infrastructure and AI to provide real-time data processing and AI services simultaneously.
Yu Takki, Vice President and Head of Infrastructure Technology Office at SK Telecom, commented, "Through this white paper, we aim to set the direction for next-generation infrastructure evolution based on Telco Edge AI and explore the expansion of related ecosystems.
