Samsung Electronics announced on October 1, 2024 that it is collaborating with NTT DoCoMo on joint research on the application of AI for next-generation mobile communications technology.

The partnership started in August of the same year and aims to accelerate AI research in the telecommunications field by leveraging the extensive technical know-how and business knowledge of both companies. In addition to improving network quality, the partnership will also establish a foundation for the market's transition to the 6G era.

According to the two companies, the joint research will focus on AI technologies to improve quality of service for customers and network operational efficiency for providers. One example is quality optimization technology that enables customers to stream content without interruption, even when they enter areas between cell boundaries or in areas with weak reception.
