Boldyn Networks, a UK-based neutral host provider (an operator that builds telecommunications infrastructure on behalf of and provides it to multiple carriers), recently announced plans to provide a local 5G network for local companies producing food and wine in the region as part of a 5G innovation project in the southern region of West Sussex. The company announced plans to provide a local 5G network for local food and wine producers in the region as part of a 5G innovation project in the southern region of West Sussex.

The project, Growing Sussex 5G Innovation Region, is led by the West Sussex Borough Council and Growers Association, the University of Brighton, and commercial growers, and funded by the UK government's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to the tune of £3.8 million. The plan is to test sensors, drones, cameras, and other technologies that could revolutionize agricultural practices and promote sustainable food production.

Boldy Networks has now designed and built four broadband local 5G networks spanning two agricultural sites and participating colleges. These networks are expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2025 and will be used to pilot state-of-the-art technologies such as automation and real-time remote control and monitoring.

Rachael Williams of the West Sussex Growers Association commented that "5G will be a game-changer for growers in the region" and "could bring growers tools to improve the efficiency, productivity, and sustainability of their growing methods."
