On July 10, FANUC, the world's leading manufacturer of industrial robots, opened a new facility for robot storage, sales, and maintenance in Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA. The company will expand its base of operations in North America, where demand for automation is growing.
The new facility was built at a cost of $110 million. Located near the company's other industrial campus, which opened in 2019, it features more than 6,000 robots, warehouse space for tens of thousands of parts, and a system to automate the loading and unloading of robots.
Last year, Fanuc built similar sites in Canada and Mexico. In North America, the company plans to invest $250 million (about 39 billion yen) in 2019 and beyond, and plans to build a training facility for North American customers at this new location in the future.
In North America, demand for automation has expanded in recent years due to rising wages and labor shortages. Of the 380.9 billion yen in sales last year for FANUC's robotics division, North America accounted for about 40%, more than any other region.
This major expansion symbolizes our growth strategy in the United States and our unwavering commitment to the future of automation and the robotics industry," commented Michael Cicco, CEO of Fanuc America, during the unveiling ceremony.
