In March 2024, the 5th Generation Mobile Forum (5GMF) released the third edition of the 5GMF white paper, "Advanced 5G with Millimeter Wave Penetration," which follows the second edition in July 2023 and introduces additional new features related to 5G with millimeter waves.

The 5GMF White Paper "Advanced 5G by Millimeter Wave Deployment" is being prepared as part of the activities of the 5GMF Planning Committee Ad Hoc for Millimeter Wave Deployment Promotion (lead by Takehiro Nakamura of NTT DoCoMo). The white paper introduces the "status of millimeter wave deployment in Japan and abroad," "challenges," "technologies," "use cases," and "solutions" as information necessary for the dissemination of millimeter wave.

In the third edition, the technologies related to the use of millimeter waves are described, including "Sub-band full-duplex (SBFD)," which enables uplink and downlink communications in different sub-bands, and "High-speed train (HST)," which enables 5G NR communications while moving at speeds exceeding 300 km/h, and other millimeter wave-enabled methods.
